The planet is on edge of a global plastic calamity

Grenade attacks in Kashmir, unrest in Shillong, bail out to sugarcane farmers and of course concern over worsening environment are the major stories in almost all newspapers today.
The DNA headlines, "Two grenade attacks rock Kashmir again," while the Indian Express quotes J&K interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma, "For talks, need to cool tempers first." The Hindustan Times writes, "India, Pak make new bid to reduce border tension - 12 grenade attacks in J&K in 4 days." And the Tribune says "No space for war, says Pakistan".
 The Indian Express writes,  "Sugar belt in deep crisis, Government ready with package for farmers, industry, while the Times of India highlights, "Kairana effect? 8 thousand crore rupees aid for sugar industry."
On disturbances in Shillong, "Secretariat in Shillong stormed," writes the Times of India. The DNA writes,  "One thousand paramilitary personnel sent to Shillong to contain clashes." The Asian Age headlines "Mob storms secretariat, Centre rushes more troops to Shillong."
On World Environment Day today, newspapers carry special stories on the topic. The Pioneer writes, " India goes all out to beat plastic pollution." The Hindustan Times says, "Hotter, Drier, Dirtier... Government's state of Environment report says India is facing its hottest decade, water and air pollution are up and trash generation has doubled." The same paper also notes, " Plastic banned, only on paper; "railway food set to take a green turn" and "mountains of plastic choke 12 states."
And finally, another legal hallmark for Women as the Union Women & Child development ministry has finalised fresh amendments to the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 which makes indecent portrayal of Women on internet and other social media punishable with a fine of two lakh rupees and a jail term of up to three years. "Indecent portrayal' of Women online may soon lead to jail, fines"
