The Hindu quotes the court as saying "Health of public more important than the automobile industry's interests". The Financial Express writes "SC order means loss of upto 30,000 crore rupees".
In yet another incident of a mob attack on an African national on the outskirts of Delhi, the DNA reports "Kenyan woman dragged out of cab, thrashed in Noida". Drawing attention to how serious the incident is, the Hindustan Times reports "Africans advised not to step out without police escorts".
Protests in Kashmir over the killings of three youths in Budgam district are widely reported in the press. "Valley shuts over Budgam killings" reports the Tribune. Meanwhile, the Mail Today in an exclusive, quotes an alleged stone pelter in Kashmir, revealing in a sting operation "We get 7000 rupees a month, clothes, shoes to hurl stones".
Speculation in the press after the Shiv Sena proposed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's name for the presidential elections to be held in July has been put to rest with the Hindustan Times writing "RSS chief clears the air, says not in race for President's post".
Acquittals in 5 anti-Sikh riot cases of 1984 is being scrutinized by the Delhi High Court reports the Times of India as it writes "High Court may order reopening of 5 anti-Sikh riot cases : points to glaring errors in probe, sends notice to accused".

·  Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanting to take the war on blackmoney to the 'next level' is highlighted in today's Press. "Modi seeks Sabka Saath in achieving Digi-Pay Target", is the headline in The Economic Times. The Prime Minister has exhorted his fellow citizen to use less cash to embrace digital transactions, so that the full year target of 2,500 crore transactions could be reached in half that time.

·  The Times of India informs us that Debit Cards have conclusively displaced Credit Cards as the primary mode of payment in the country following demonitization, jumping from 42% of the total card-spend to 60% after the November 8 demonitization drive.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's first public address after being sworn-in gets widely reported. "Development for all, no appeasement: UP CM" reports the DNA. In the backdrop of the crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses in the state, the Indian Express quotes him as saying "Won't touch abattoirs with license". Meanwhile drawing attention to the non-availability of non-vegetarian food in capital Lucknow, the Times of India writes "No chicken, mutton in Lucknow after sellers go on strike".
All the papers prominently notice Vice President Hamid Ansari's convocational address at the Punjab University. The Tribune quotes the Vice President as saying "There is need to defend universities as free spaces". The Hindustan Times writes "Universities should take legal course to defend freedom says VP Ansari".
Most papers take note of the standoff between the government and the Chief Justice of India J S Khehar at the National Green Tribunal's two day World Environment Conference. "Govt. says courts shouldn't be an adversary on green issues" writes the Times of India. The Indian Express quotes the Chief Justice as saying "Let govt keep to eco norms, won't step in".
Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad's train journey from Delhi to Mumbai after his unbecoming behaviour with an Air India staffer is keenly tracked in the media. The Pioneer says "Gaikwad booked train ticket with '99 year' age". The Asian Age reports "Sena MP takes train to Mumbai, alights at Vapi".
In a special story captioned "More single women adopting children in India, shows data" the Hindustan Times states "75 of them adopted a child in 2015; the number increased to 93 in 2016".

Several airlines imposing a flying ban on Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad - for repeated assaults on an Air India duty manager with his footwear, receives prominence in today's Press. The Indian Express headline reads - "Grounded by all airlines for assaulting Air India staff, Sena MP takes train home."
The Financial Express writes that NITI Aayog member Bibek Deboy said in Mumbai that about 15 lakh crore of demonetized notes may have returned to the banking system, which was about 97% of value of the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes demonetized on November 8th last year. He also said that the government expected the second Income Declaration Scheme, which will end on March 31st, to yield around 2 lakh crore rupees into the system.
The Indian Express informs us that five years into a court-monitored investigation in the coal scam, the CBI on Friday told the Supreme Court it wants to change the Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) associated with the cases, since their departure would ensure 'better investigation'.
Mail Today informs us that the emotive issue of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots is all set to take centre stage, ahead of next months Delhi civic polls and haunt the Congress, some of whose leaders have been accused of instigating it. The Supreme Court said on Friday that it will re-examine 199 cases that were recently closed by the SIT constituted two years ago.

Highlighting the national carrier's response, the Asian Age says "Air India files FIRs against Sena MP for hitting its staffer 25 times". The paper adds that he may be put on a 'no-fly' list.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's response to the reported remark by the Supreme Court on pensions to former lawmakers is widely reported. The Pioneer writes "Right of Parliament to decide who is entitled to government pension, says Jaitley".
The impact of the sealing of 36 slaughterhouses and retail meat shops in Uttar Pradesh is prominently noticed in the press. "Meat traders shut shop across western UP : Protest follows government's sealing of slaughter houses, shops" reports the Hindu on its front page. The Hindustan Times writes "No meat for animals at Kanpur zoo". The Tribune observes "Meat ban spoils Tunday kebabs' flavour".
Here's an interesting situation in a political party. "1 party, 2 factions, 3 symbols" writes the DNA on the AIADMK. "UP government bans pan gutkha in offices" reports the Pioneer. The Hindustan Times, referring to the UP Chief Minister's initiatives writes "Adityanath targets romeos, cow smuggling and gutkha eaters".
The Asian Age writes that in a bid to avoid a clash with the CBSE class 12 Board exams the civic polls for the 3 municipal corporation in Delhi have been postponed by a day to April 23rd.
The Indian Express writes "Jaitley counters critique - says" Yes we are making Aadhar Mandatory", while the DNA quotes the Finance Minister as saying that aadhar can check tax evasion and its biometric details minimise the chances of its misuse. In a related story, The Asian Age writes that the Centre will dissolve eight appellate tribunals including competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT), Employees Provident Fund Appellate Tribunal and copyright board among other through the Finance bill, 2017.
The DNA reports that the long wait is finally over, India's longest road tunnel is all set to be thrown open for public use next month. The Engineering Marvel is the 9 km long Nashiri tunnel on the Strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

Writing on the continuing clampdown on cash transactions by the centre, the Business Standard says "Cash transactions limit lowered to 2 lakh rupees . Aadhar mandatory for filing I-T returns and PAN." "Violators face fine equivalent to the amount of transaction" writes the Business Line.
On BJP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath the Hindustan Times writes " No graft, no riots, vows Adityanath." "Yogi meets PM Modi, Amit Shah and others on team portfolios" reports The Asian Age. The paper writes that the Chief Minister was greeted with cheers in the Lok Sabha and he pledged to work for all.

And, finally, the Times of India reports that researchers in Duke University have come up with a new marker called "Intellectual Humility", a trait defined as the opposite of arrogance and conceit. People with intellectual humility are "open-minded...and though they have strong beliefs, they are willing to be proven wrong." Something we need to cultivate in large doses, isn't it?

The Tribune in a front page story headlined "New health regime set in motion" writes that the cabinet has cleared a National Health Policy which seeks to provide assured health services especially to the poor.
The Business Standard reports that the currency in circulation rose by 4% last week and now close to 70% of the pre demonetisation currency is back in circulation. In a related story DNA reports that the growth in mobile wallets has plummeted from 125% in December to just 12% in January.

"On computing ability, rural India is lost in the woods" states The Hindu. The paper writes that according to a study just 8.8% of population can use PCs, smartphones.
And finally, vitamin B may protect  from air pollution. Well, Hindustan Times reports that taking supplements of vitamin B may offer protection against the impact of air pollution on health, a new study claims. Researchers at Columbia university found vitamin B may play a critical role in reducing the impact of air pollution on the epige-nome - compounds that can tell genes what to do.

The results of the Assembly elections dominate the front pages of all the papers with most highlighting the mammoth win for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. The Hindustan Times declares, " Modi is King of the Heartland" while the Pioneer describes the BJP's victory as a 'Saffron Tsunami".
With attention now turning to government formation in the states, the Times of India reports "4 in race for UP CM, but Shah will be Super CM". Highlighting the names of possible contenders the Economic Times says "Manoj Sinha, Santosh Gangwar, Swatantra Dev, Suresh Khanna and Siddharth Nath Singh seen as probables".
The ramifications of these results will be felt in different ways. It says Supreme Court has dismissed the Army's petition seeking review of an order of the court in July 2016 which had said that a summary court martial constituted alone by the commanding officer must be held only in exceptional circumstances and its reasons recorded in writing.
"Visible from Pakistan, India's tallest Tiranga to stand tall at Attari", writes The Sunday Pioneer. The project will cost 3.6 crore rupees and the all weather flag will be based on motorised mechanism.
"Health Ministry plans to link hospitals across India, invites bids to develop software", headlines The Asian Age. Soon patients can walk into a hospital without carrying files containing their previous health records. All they will have to do is to quote their Aadhaar numbers.
