"Palestine conveys "deep regret", recalls Pak envoy."
The decision by Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel not to join office has also been highlighted by many newspapers."Rupani faces Patidar anger, as Nitin Patel stays away", reports The Indian Express, while The Asian Age adds "Hardik sends feelers to sulking Deputy CM".
Damage control after the Mumbai  high rise fire has also been reported "Day after fire, Mumbai launches demolition drive against violators", informs The Hindustan Times, while The Times of India discloses ". After fire, 314 demolitions in Mumbai; look out notice for three bar owners".
The CBFC's decision to give certification to the controversial film"Padmawati", has also been reported extensively."Padmawati to lose 'I', aye, aye for Padmawati", headlines The Sunday Tribune. The Indian Express headlines "With a history edit, Censor has its 'I', Padmawati its release".
In its front page story The Mail Today reports "Police say students from DU, JNU and Amity busted for selling narcotics belong to "Good, educated families", and adds "Parents had no clue their sons peddled drugs".

The Sunday Times informs that CBSE Class X and Class XII board exams will start after Holi, likely from March 5. The board is likely to announce the dates in the first week of January.

The passage of the bill banning instant triple talaq in the Lok Sabha dominates front page headlines. Commenting on the issue, the Hindustan Times reports "Bill sails through via voice vote, rejecting several proposed amendments ; passage in Rajya Sabha to hinge on support from Congress".
The condemnation in Parliament of the manner in which Pakistan conducted the meeting between Kulbhushan Jadhav and his wife and mother in Islamabad is highlighted in all the papers. The DNA writes "Pak forced them to look like widows : Sushma in Parliament on humiliation of Jadhav family". Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu's cautionary note against spoiling the chances of getting Jadhav back is flagged by the Hindu as it reports "Naidu cautions MPs on remarks against Pak".
All the papers take note of the apology tendered by Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde who has been under Opposition fire for his remarks that the BJP would change the Constitution. The Indian Express states "Prodded by Speaker, Hegde says I apologise, Constitution supreme".
The successful test firing of an interceptor missile by India is widely noticed. On its possible implications for India's security architecture, the Times of India states "Domestic missile shield a step closer as test launch hits bullseye".
In economic news, the decision of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio to buy out the wireless assets of younger brother Anil Ambani's debt-ridden Reliance Communications on the 85th birth anniversary of their father Dhirubhai Ambani gets top billing. The Times of India notes "On Dad's birthday, Mukesh gives Anil 23,000 crore rupee relief".
On the terrorist attack in Kabul in Afghanistan, the Tribune observes "41 dead in IS-claimed attack on Shia centre ; Gathering was organised to mark the 38th anniversary of Soviet invasion in Afghanistan".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating Delhi Metro's Magenta Line from Botanical Garden to Okhla Bird Sanctuary along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Ram Naik at Noida is covered with reports and photographs on the front pages of most dailies.
"Rupani to take oath as Gujarat Chief Minister today", reports The Asian Age. "50 planes to fly VIPs for Gujarat oath today", reports DNA.
Writing on the R K Nagar bypoll defeat suffered by AIADMK at the hands of rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran, the Tribune says, "AIADMK expels 9 Dhinakaran aides". "AIADMK cleans house after shock loss", is how the Statesman puts it.
Referring to Pope Francis traditional Christmas address at the Vatican, The Asian Age notes, "Jerusalem, migrants feature in Pope's Christmas address".
Writing on the fog enveloping the national capital and its surrounding areas DNA reports, "17 trains cancelled, 26 disrupted by fog".
On drug use hitting new heights at parties in the festive season, Mail Today leads, "Hosts to be hauled up for drug parties". The paper writes plainclothes cops will mingle with guests at farmhouse raves this festive season; property owners come under strict scanner.

The BJP picking Jairam Thakur as the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and TTV Dhinakaran winning Chennai's R.K. Nagar Assembly by poll are two front-page stories across papers today.

The Times of India reports that Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister at Davos in two decades, where the world's top CEOs gather for the annual meeting of the world economic forum in January.  Only two PMs - P.V. Narasimha Rao and H.D. Deve Gowda - had gone to Davos with the last one being in 1997.

The Pioneer writes that with the government set to table the Bill banning Triple Talaq in Parliament next week, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board held an emergency meeting yesterday to declare it to be against women, and which, if implemented, will destroy many families.

"Capital shivers at 6.3 degree Celsius as coldest day of season;  air quality worsens." says The Hindustan Times.  The paper adds that the air quality index moved from poor to very poor.

"Putin's most formidable foe in 18 years, Navalny, rises" writes The Asian Age writing that thousands of Russians have endorsed the candidacy of Alexei Navalny, seen as the only Russian Opposition leader who stands a fighting chance of challenging strong man Vladimir Putin in a March vote.

"Work force grows but job creation fails to keep pace" writes The Hindu Business Line. The paper adds that while 26 million joined the work force, only 1.5 million got employment in the 12 months to August 2017, as per a BSE - CMIE survey.

The Times of India reports "RJD Boss Calls it Conspiracy of Casteist minds".
Many newspapers have also reported on the killing of soldiers in firing at the LoC. "Major, 3 jawans killed in Rajouri LoC attack - Ambush by Pakistani troops suspected" reports The Sunday Tribune. The newspaper adds that the bodies of the martyred soldiers were mutilated.
The report of a bus tragedy in Rajasthan has also been prominently covered along with photographs of the tragic accident.  "33 dead as bus driven by "minor" plunges 100 ft. into river in Rajasthan" reports The Times of India.

The Asian Age speculates in its headline "BJP may name dark horse as Himachal CM."
Today's newspapers also have more revelations on the Godman from Rohini. "33 women found in dungeons at Rohini Baba's UP Ashram" reports The Times of India, while the Pioneer adds "Rapist Baba Dikshit runs 200 Rohini-like assault centres" - in five states.
The Indian Express reports that the Indian Institutes of Advanced Technology IITs have shot down the governments proposal to permit the National Testing Agency to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced).

"TV channels told to verify content taken from Social Media" headlines the Hindustan Times. The paper states that the move comes after the Information and Broadcasting Ministry took two channels, showing objectionable content.

US President Donald Trump unveiling strategy with 'leadership role' for India is one of the top stories in most of the dailies this morning.  Hindustan Times quotes US as saying "India 'global power', Pak must curb terrorism".  While the Hindu quoting President Trump writes "China a threat, India an ally".
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told Rajya Sabha that the government was in favour of bringing petroleum products under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) but would await consensus among states before making any such move, reports the Indian Express.
A day after Gujarat election results were announced a fierce war of words broke out between the Congress and the BJP which is widely reported in the media. The Asian Age quoting Rahul says, "PM faces credibility crisis". The same paper writing on BJP's response writes "If Congress can't differentiate in victory and defeat, then God help them".
"Rahul tipped to lead Congress parliamentary party too" informs Hindustan Times.
"Nadda or Jai Ram for Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, ponders BJP" quips The Tribune on BJP deliberating as to who should be handed over the reins of power in the wake of defeat of its CM candidate - Prem Kumar Dhumal.
The government and the opposition sparring in Parliament is also keenly tracked by the dailies this morning. "Parliament functions finally, but threat of opposition disruption hangs" notes DNA. "Government rules out apology from PM.  Furore in House over Manmohan jibe" reports The Hindu.
"India to take-up with Islamabad alleged conversion of Sikhs" informs The Statesman.
The Pioneer reports that there was no proposal to make Aadhar linkage mandatory for property transactions.
And finally, grandparents can cut out ageism in young. Well, Mail Today reports that spending quality time with granny and grand dad can help cut out ageism in younger people, according to a new research. Ageist stereotypes are common in young adults and can even be seen in children as young as three.

"Modi Rules Home And Hills", observes the Economic Times. The Indian Express calls it "Modi's December Spring", adding, "Voters rejected poison of caste, says PM, calls it a vikas victory". "Lotus blooms in cities, Hand grabs rural Gujarat", notes the Pioneer.
The Times of India says, "BJP Hits 6, but Stalls at 99 in Gujarat". The paper elaborates, "Seesaw day ends with photo-finish at Modasa" as the party was denied a century in the State.
"Congress claims moral victory in Gujarat", writes the Statesman. Hindustan Times states, "In close defeat, a win for Rahul". "Congress emerges as formidable opposition after 22 years", observes the Pioneer. The Asian Age says, "There's hope for 2019 in Congress's defeat".
"BJP's landslide in Himachal Pradesh, but CM face bites dust", states the Pioneer. "BJP hunts for CM as Dhumal loses", reports the Asian Age.
The Gujarat elections were a lot closer this time than in 2012, notes the Times of India. In an interesting observation, the paper states, "Notabhai gets more votes than winning margin in one out of 6 seats".
"Cautious BJP may go slow on reforms; Controversial FRDI Bill may face axe", reports the Asian Age.
In other stories, The Pioneer reports, "Finally, capital breathes 'good' air, as for the first time this month, the air quality was recorded "good" in the national Capital.

"Supreme Court clears 12 special courts to try cases against politicians" writes the Hindu, adding that the Fast track courts across the country will dispose off 1,581 cases in a year.
In its page one anchor story, the Indian Express says "Amnesty for first time stone pelters warms homes in the valley" writing that the identification process will begin soon and that the court will look at individual cases.
The Times of India reports that Indian cricketers are set for a huge pay hike, with the salaries of top players as well as domestic ones likely to double in the coming season.

"Elected unopposed he will formally take over on December 16", informs the Hindu. "Leadership change" is the caption under a beaming photograph of Rahul Gandhi in Financial Express.
All the papers carry reports and photographs of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma tying the knot at a private ceremony in Florence, Italy on their front pages. "Band Baaja Baaraat for Virat and Anushka" quips the Pioneer.
"French nationals beaten, molested in UP; 8 arrested", says the DNA.
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu suggested the automatic suspension of unruly law makers disrupting proceedings in legislature and naming them publicly for their behavior, reports the Hindustan Times.

The coverage of the first phase of elections in Gujarat yesterday, dominates the headlines of most news papers today. "Big turnout kicks off battle for Gujarat", declares The Times of India, while the Asian Age notes "With 68% turnout, Modi claims historic win" The Pioneer adds "EC orders probe into allegations of EVM tampering via WiFi, Bluetooth in Porbandar." The Statesman reports "Election commission says Congress charges of EVM tampering is baseless".
The confessions of the murder of his mother and sister by a Noida Teenager has also been reported prominently "Noida boy used bat, Pizza cutter to kill - was upset after Mom hit him, felt sister was loved more: Cops", reports the Times of India. The Hindustan Times adds " The teen used a pair of scissors and Pizza cutter to disfigure the faces of his mother and sister after killing them".
The a significant report, The Hindu notes " 24 years on, OBC workforce in Centre still short of Mandal mark", It adds that as of January 2017, the number across cadres is far below the mandated 27%.

"Half Gujarat decides today" is the lead headline in the Indian Express. Describing the Prime Minister's poll pitch, the Hindustan Times writes "Aiyar gave my 'supari' in Pakistan says Modi". The Pioneer reports "Don't insult PM, Rahul tells cadre".
The alleged medical negligence by Max Hospital in Delhi's Shalimar Bagh for erroneously declaring a 22-week old premature baby dead gets widely reported. "Baby's death, EWS gaps, dengue: Delhi Govt scraps Max Hospital's license" headlines the Indian Express. The Times of India also gives Max hospital's version  "Hospital punished for individual's error". Writing on the same, the DNA says "Fate of patients, staff hangs in the balance".
The Hindu, in a top headline, observes "India gets admission into Wassenar Arrangement". The paper highlights that this will boost New Delhi's chances of joining the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Reporting on a significant step by Pakistan, promptly welcomed by India, the Statesman observes "Pak allows Jadhav to meet mother, wife on 25 Dec". The Hindu states "Indian official also permitted to travel with them, as requested by New Delhi".
Another story prominently covered across newspapers is that of the government's proposal to take over troubled real estate firm Unitech. "Govt takes over management of Unitech in "public interest'" headlines the Times of India. The paper adds " Govt will appoint 10 new directors by December 20".
