The ushering in of GST at midnight in Parliament is the lead in every paper. 'PM says Good and Simple Tax, President calls it a tribute to India's maturity, wisdom' writes the Indian Express. Friday night Blockbuster reads the Economic Times headline, while Mail Today calls it Taxtonic shift. The Business Standard says, the concept of GST was introduced by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee way back in 2000. An additional cover page features on most papers listing the benefits of 'One Nation, One Tax.
India talking tough on the China face off finds front page coverage in most dailies. 'India of 2017 different from that of 1962- Jaitley to China' is the Times of India headline on Page One Plus. "India warns of Serious impact- says troops did not transgress territory' writes the Hindu.
Around 43000 seats are still up for grabs in Delhi University. "DU admissions resume today" writes the Times of India.
"Germany vote of conscience - same sex marriage now legal" writes the Asian Age on its front page. The paper adds that despite reservations by Chancellor Angela Merkel, the bill was passed, granting gay and lesbian couple full rights, including adoption.
KK Venugopal to be the next attorney General replacing Mukul Rohtagi finds place in most papers.
And finally, the Hindustan Times has a picture of Shyam Saran Negi - he's the man who cast India's first vote in the general elections of October 1951. What is interesting to note is that he turns 100 today.
