Delhi pollution: Anger rises as toxic air chokes city; public demands comprehensive plan

NEWSPAPERS HEADLINES:
The Goods and Services Tax rate revisions announced by the GST council dominates front page newspaper headlines this morning. "Big GST Reset" headlines the Business Standard. 'Only 50 stay in 28% tax slab; Composition Scheme threshold at 1.5 crore rupees; and Eating out to get cheaper' adds the paper. The Economic Times' banner headline reads - "GiST of the matter: It won't pinch your wallet any more".
Several papers have keenly tracked the Lucknow Medical college bribe case involving alleged judicial corruption. "Fissures in Judiciary as 'master of roster' CJI asserts authority" headlines the Tribune.
The creation of an autonomous body for conducting entrance tests by the name National Testing Agency also gets prominent attention. "NTA for higher education entrance tests gets Union Cabinet nod" headlines the Pioneer.
Another top headline in the Indian Express reads "Trump hails 'astounding' India growth story, Modi, at Asia-Pacific summit" in Vietnam.
The papers also report that the odd-even car control formula in Delhi may not see the light of the day. "NGT to decide odd-even fate today, calls govt move a farce" headlines the Times of India. The paper quotes NGT as saying - "Why now? First prove to us that it works". The Financial Express writes "Govt to spray water over Delhi to tackle smog".
The Economic Times in its anchor story has highlighted "A solution to end stubble burning?" The paper says that farmers in Maharashtra  use weedicides and microbial culture to turn crop residue into compost.
And finally, in more worrisome news, the Times of India, quoting an international study, warns, that exposure to air pollution may increase the risk of fractures from osteoporosis by causing loss of mineral density. Well, high time to take action for the air we breathe!
