Professor Yunus’s Opinion | David Roodman's Microfinance Open Book Blog

Professor Yunus’s Opinion | David Roodman's Microfinance Open Book Blog: "In the 1970s, when I began working here on what would eventually be called “microcredit,” one of my goals was to eliminate the presence of loan sharks who grow rich by preying on the poor. In 1983, I founded Grameen Bank to provide small loans that people, especially poor women, could use to bring themselves out of poverty. At that time, I never imagined that one day microcredit would give rise to its own breed of loan sharks."

  1. As a matter of fact, I am an English teacher in a developing country in South America called Peru and I am working at present with my business students Professor Yunus's bank case study. Indeed, to me it is most enlightening to read that transparent contribution using micro-lending is feasible; however, I have my hesitations if that kind of loan could be useful in my culture and for how long.

Could you please let me know if there are some short-term examples of this fascinating means of finantial proposal in order to erradicate poverty in the world?

Thank you for briefing me on this matter. If you could recommend some bibliography, I would be most grateful.
