Excess is success, especially if it’s exotic | Mukesh Ambani | New Year | Indian Express

Excess is success, especially if it’s exotic | Mukesh Ambani | New Year | Indian Express: "Every year-end reviewer doffs a respectful hat — or Gandhi topi — to Charles Dickens and his immortal phrase in Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” It’s a perfect opening line while summing up the year, or most years that is, because a period of 365 days invariably has a mix of both. In the Indian context, even more so since there are enough politicians with inflated egos and even more inflated bank balances to ensure no year passes off without its share of scams and scandals. We have had those in full measure in 2010, but what will the New Year bring? Usually, it’s a time to regret the sins and excesses of the year gone by and vow to change bad habits into good and turn over a new leaf or three. Yet, what 2010 proved most dramatically is that, along with the economy, our excesses are becoming, well, excessive."
