During the Hyderabad State liberation struggle, carrying a Telugu newspaper in public was considered an offence by the Razakars, who enforced a brutal regime under the Nizam. Eminent journalist M. S. Acharya risked his life by secretly distributing Telugu newspapers like Andhra Patrika and pamphlets to spread news about the people’s struggle and the agitation against the Razakars’ atrocities. Acharya and his brother organized resistance networks, helped rescue kidnapped leaders like Mustyala Shanker Rao, and used innovative techniques like hiding a cyclostyling machine inside newspaper bundles from Madras to produce underground literature. Their courageous actions played a vital role in keeping the movement alive and informed despite severe threats, and former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao himself started his career as a journalist and subeditor in that resistance era.
