One milestone crossed: Govt meets electrification target of 18,000 villages

NEWSPAPERS HEADLINES

All major newspapers today carry photographs of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the East lake in Wuhan in China. "Modi-Xi summit turns up trumps "declares the Sunday Pioneer. The DNA notes "Caution:  Men at work-Modi and Xi agree to avoid military dispute on tense border".  The Indian Express adds in its headline "China won't force India on Belt and road; both countries for joint economic project in Afghanistan, say can have more informal summits in future".

 In a front page story in The Asian Age headlined "Red Fort 'adopted' in Rs 25 crore deal, opposition fumes", the newspaper reports that a corporate house has signed an agreement for developing tourist -friendly amenities at the iconic Red fort with the tourism ministry under its "Adopt a Heritage" project. The DNA adds "Rival parties scream over Red Fort adoption, government says not for profits".

The Sunday Times says that the "Collegium may resend Justice K M Joseph's", name for appointment to the Supreme Court.

 In its front page story The Hindustan Times reports "Pakistan ramps up defence spending with an eye on India", and adds that the government of Pakistan plans to raise its allocation for defence by a whopping 18 percent to rupees 1.1 trillion for the next fiscal year.

In a significant story The Hindu writes "JeM's new strategy: Train local youth for suicide attacks", and adding that the outfit has indoctrinated several recruits in J&K.

And Finally, the DNA reports, "Chaiwala's son fights odds to crack UPSC,"and adds that Deshal Dan Charan from Sumalai village in Jaisalmer, has cleared the UPSC 2017 exam with 82nd rank.
