Congress sweeps civic polls in Punjab

NEWSPAPERS HEADLINES:

The election of Rahul Gandhi as president of the Congress Party dominates front page headlines. The Times of India writes "Rahul Gandhi crowned finally, says PM taking India back in time". The Indian Express observes " In first speech as Congress chief, Rahul assails politics of hate : says he is 'idealist', Modi running after personal glory". The Hindustan Times highlights Priyanka Gandhi comments on the possibility of her joining the electoral fray as it quotes her as saying "Mother, not I , will contest from Rae Bareilly".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the North East is prominently noticed in the press. The Hindustan Times reports " Modi flags off BJP's North-East poll campaign; visits Mizoram, Meghalaya and asks voters to throw out Congress governments". The Pioneer, highlighting the Prime Minister's announcement regarding improving connectivity in the region writes "Modi's 90,000 crore boost for North-East connectivity".
Most papers take note of Interpol refusing to heed to a plea by the National Investigation Agency or NIA on the controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. The DNA states "NIA goofs up, no Interpol Red Corner notice for Zakir Naik".
The sentencing of former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Madhu Koda in the coal scam case is widely noticed. The Indian Express quotes the special court which sentenced him as saying " White collar crimes more dangerous to society than ordinary crimes".
Finally.....a likely recommendation of the Law Commission has evinced great media interest . The Hindustan Times writes "Sports betting a step closer to legal status".
