NEWSPAPERS HEADLINES:
Speculations on a pre-poll alliance between Akhilesh Yadav's party and the Congress, are highlighted in several papers. "Akhilesh, Rahul may seal deal this week", is the top headline in Hindustan Times. The Asian Age reports - 'Posters of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's wife and Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav along-side Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi Vadra appearing across the state, clearly indicate that the Samajwadi Party and Congress are inching closer to firming up an alliance.
The Sunday Times informs us that Lambi, a traditional Akali stronghold and the constituency of five-time Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Balal, could witness the mother of all battles this election season, with Punjab Congress Chief Captain Amrinder Singh announcing his intention to take on the senior Badal on his turf.
Recommendation made by a group of secretaries on education is the lead story in The Indian Express.  The panel has said "Make English a must in all schools, one English-medium school per block".
"Lucknow Airport shuts down after radar goes on blink", headlines Sunday Times. The Uttar Pradesh capital's aerial connection with the rest of the country snapped on Saturday  in peak election season following an Instrument Landing System failure at the  Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport.
Mail Today writes of an embarrassment of riches at India's airports following the demonetisation move. Authorities have  seized huge amounts of cash, gold and jewellery between November 9 and December 31st. The Central Industrial Security Force has managed to confiscate 351.62 kgs of gold, and 71.48 crore rupees in cash, from 59 airports across the country.
And finally, The Sunday Times reports of the latest food available on offer at Mc Donalds for dosa fans - the Dosa Masala Brioche. Inside the French Pastry called brioche is no dosa, but rather a crisp sleek patty of patato masala, which, happily, tastes quite authentic.
