US President Donald Trump's executive order imposing travel restrictions is the front page lead in many papers. The Times of India writes "US bars entry from 7 Muslim nations, tech giants spooked". On the criticism of the ban order by the CEO's of tech giants Facebook and Google, the DNA reports "Zuckerberg, Pichai lead opposition to Trump's immigration order".
In poll season, the Election Commission's communication to the central government on the model Code of Conduct is widely noticed. The Indian Express quotes the EC as telling the government "Certain decisions disturb level playing field, check with us : was surprised over Budget announcement, Combined commanders meet".
In a special front page story captioned "New policy to change the way India prepares for war", the Tribune writes that the Defence Ministry has okayed a policy to maintain total military readiness for a minimum of 10 days, indicating the possibility that future conflicts could be short, swift and sudden.
Reactions to the attack on film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of his new film Padmavati by a group claiming to represent the Rajput community are prominently noticed in the press. DNA writes "Jallikattu ordinance promulgated, Tamil Nadu rejoices", though The Hindu reports that protesters across the State have refused to call off their strike, demanding that a 'permanent solution' " be found.
In a gesture of goodwill, Pakistan authorities have handed over 22 year old sepoy Chandu Babulal Chavan of 37 Rashtriya Rifles, who had 'inadvertently' crossed the Line of Control, reports The Indian Express with the headline. "Pakistan returns Indian soldier, cites regional peace".
"India may soon get a tri-services chief", who will be a four-star general like the three Army, Navy and Air Force chiefs, writes The Times of India. This is to ensure synergy in training, logistics, planning & procurements among the Forces, for a greater military punch. All the papers prominently notice Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar's comments on China at the second edition of the Raisina Dialogue. The Indian Express quotes him as saying "On corridor via POK, China showed no sensitivity".
The decision to divest government stake in state owned general insurance companies is widely noticed. The Tribune states "Government to divest 25% stake in general insurance PSUs".
The issue of Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani's educational qualifications in the backdrop of an RTI application seeking details on it is back in media focus. The Asian Age quotes Delhi University's School of Open Learning as telling the Central Information Commission, "Smriti told Delhi University not to give info on her degrees".
