The spread of communal violence in the Muzzafarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh dominates front page headlines today. The papers highlight the politicking that has started over the issue. The Asian Age quotes the Congress General Secretary as saying "Maya ran a better govt than SP". The Indian Express reports "CM blames BJP, says officers free to act". The Pioneer highlights the BJP claim - "Government and police sitting idle".

The strategy meeting of the RSS, the BJP and other affiliate organisations ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls is keenly tracked by the press. Drawing attention to the opposition to the naming of Narendra Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate, the Mail Today reports "Sangh and Advani spar over NaMo crowning". The Hindu makes an interesting observation. It writes, "Conclave posters project Vajpayee" though for all practical purposes it is supposed to be a 'Modi' event.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh's comments on the naxal problem are widely noticed in the press. The Times of India quotes him as saying "Land grab for PSUs behind rise of Naxalism". On the naxal problem, the Hindustan Times reports that to counter Maoist propaganda, All India Radio will play jingles urging the tribals and villagers to join the mainstream.

In a front page exclusive, the Hindustan Times says that the CBI, investigating the coal blocks allocation scam, may search the offices of the Coal ministry and seize records after September 15 to trace the missing files crucial to its probe.

All private technical and medical colleges charging capitation fee are in for trouble with the Supreme court stepping in on this issue. "Private college capitation fee is illegal, rules SC" reports the Asian Age.

In its front page lead, the Financial Express reports that the Finance Ministry has asked banks to register FIR's and initiate criminal proceedings against willful defaulters.

And finally, Pictures of people forming a big "Thank You' in a stadium in Tokyo as the city was selected to host the 2020 Olympics are splashed across many papers.
