The deepening political crises in the Maldives is covered prominently by the Press. Hindustan Times reports that the former President of the Maldives Mohamad Nasheed, sought military intervention to free detained judges and political leaders, following imposition of a 15-day emergency by President Abdulla Yameen. The Indian Express headline reads " Maldives crises: India looks at sanctions, not boots on ground", while The Times of India reports, 'Indian Military kept on stand by'.
Another major story in todays papers is the audacious attack by jailed LeT militant Mohammad Naveed, inside Srinagars main health care facility. The Asian Age reports that the militant was brought to the hospital for a medical checkup, where he suddenly opened fire, killing two escorting police men.
"Global crash has market tottering, Rs. 2.7 lakh crore wiped out in a day" headlines The Indian Express. Stock markets in India and across the world tumbled on Tuesday, with the sensex sinking 1,275 points.
The Asian Age in a front page story reports, Rahul hits at out government for keeping price of fighter jets a secret. "Rahul calls Rafale deal a scam, trains guns at Modi."
In another story the paper reports of at least 40 people being infected with HIV in UP's Unnao district in the last 10 months, allegedly after a quack Rajendra Kumar used a common syringe to administer injections. Kumar charged his patients a fee of rupees 10, with medicines, and carried his 'mobile clinic' on a bicycle from village to village.
