Budget 2018: FM Arun Jaitley prescribes Modicare for Bharat

With the annual budget to be presented in Parliament today, many papers lead with ideas about what to expect in the budget. The Asian Age says , "FM to balance populism, fiscal prudence". The Hindu notes "Budget expected to focus on direct taxes : Effort will be to ensure any cut in rate doesn't hit revenue".
The ongoing face-off between the four senior most judges of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India regarding allocation of work continues to be tracked by the media. The Tribune observes "Rebel judges favour panel of future CJIs to end roster row : CJI Misra yet to formally respond, but said to be unwilling to budge".
Most papers take note of the detention of a serving Indian Air Force officer by the counter-intelligence wing of the air force. The Times of India reports "IAF officer detained for leaking secrets to woman : Group captain may have been honey-trapped".
Reporting on investigations into the recent communal violence that rocked Kasganj town in Uttar Pradesh in which one person was killed, the Pioneer reports "Kasganj killer nabbed : Police looking for 2 other absconders accused of shooting at Tiranga Yatra". The DNA quotes the mother of the dead boy as saying " No politics over my dead child".
The Army's version of the firing incident in Shopian district in Kashmir is prominently noticed in the papers. The Asian Age reports "Army files counter FIR in Shopian shooting incident : Says soldiers were 'provoked to the ultimate' and 'acted in self-defence'". In a slightly different version, the Indian Express quotes the Jammu and Kashmir police as saying "No counter FIR in Shopian firing, Army's version included".
The findings of a nationwide survey by the government to assess the standard of education in classes 3,5 and 8 are discussed in the papers today. The Indian Express reports "Girls show better learning than boys; rural schools perform better in math".
