A safe, sound but inadequate budget

NEWSPAPERS HEADLINES:
The Economic Survey makes for front page news in most of the dailies this morning."Survey hints at DeMo "windfall" doles in budget" headlines the Economic Times. The paper writes in what are pointers to the future the survey alludes to possible handouts,talks of universal basic income and predicts recovery in demonetisation- hit growth next fiscal, but also warns of challenges ahead.
The US President Donald Trump administration's introduction of legislation to curb foreign nationals from being employed by US companies under the H-1B visa programme is the other big story covered by the papers this morning. "After migrant ban, work permit clampdown: US moves to make H1B visas harder to get" writes the Indian Express. "India's IT hopes and stocks crash over Trump's H-1B visa bill" headlines the DNA.
Writing on a pre-poll tragedy in Punjab the Hindustan Times writes "3 killed in car blast at Punjab Congress roadshow".
Referring to the detention of Hafiz Saeed the mastermind of Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 by Pakistan the Asian Age quotes India as saying "Need real action on Hafiz". "India seeks concrete action against Hafiz" says the Pioneer. Quoting ministry of External Affairs telling Pakistan the paper writes "Mumbai terror mastermind has been held only to be freed in the past".
Commenting on President Pranab Mukherjee's address to the joint sitting of Parliament at the beginning of the Budget session the Statesman notes "President lauds demonetisation, surgical strikes".
And finally, the next time you pop a balloon, beware! Well, the Times of India reports that popping balloons - a common birthday party favour - can be louder than shotgun blasts and may lead to permanent hearing loss, a new study has warned.
