"Women of Steel, Dreams of Gold", leads the Times of India on Sakshi, Sindhu and Dipa getting the Khel Ratna. The Pioneer writes " Super Girls Bag Top Honours."
"Explain Bulandshahr rape remark: SC to Azam Khan", is a front page story in The Indian Express.
"Inflation leaves no room for rate cuts, says Rajan", reports the Business Standard , citing the RBI's annual report, that India's growth is below potential. 'Banks not passing on rate cuts to customers' The Times of India quotes the outgoing RBI governor.
"Andhra leads in making all 112 urban areas 'Open Defecation Free' followed by Kerala and Gujarat" covers the Pioneer on its front page, also citing a study , "ODF villages back to square one due to water, space crunch."
"ISIS jihadis rooting for Trump to win Presidential polls", reports the Asian Age.

Most newspapers have prominently mentioned Prime Minister Modi's comments on Kashmir in his monthly Mann ki Baat radio broadcast. "PM warns troublemakers on 'using kids' in Kashmir" is the Hindustan Times headlines. The Hindu headline reads "PM pitches for compassion and unity to end Kashmir crisis". Meanwhile, the Statesman front page story reports that home minister Rajnath Singh may lead an all party team to Kashmir on 3rd September.
In a related story, the Asian Age reports that the Centre is working on a Rs 2000 crore package for PoK refugees. Over 36000 families from PoK, Gilgit and Baltistan living in India as refugees may get around Rs 5.5 lacs each.
Another story that finds prominent mention on the front pages of most dailies is the successful test-firing of the scramjet engine by ISRO. The Asian Age leads with this news and calls the Scramjet a big success that will reduce the cost of rocket launch.
The Times of India lead story reports that "50% of states are likely to give nod to GST by September". The winter session of parliament may be held early to pass linked bills, the paper adds.
The Pioneer reports that the 15 lac diesel heavy vehicles older than 15 years will soon be junked. The draft vehicle scrapping policy is in the final stage, adds the paper.

India unveiling a draft law to ban commercial surrogacy is the other big story covered by newspapers this morning. "New surrogacy bars married couples with kids, NRIs, gays,live-ins, foreigners", informs The Indian Express. "Renting womb for bearing child to be crime", writes The Tribune adding, "Cabinet stamp on bill banning commercial surrogacy, only altruistic surrogacy allowed".

Most of the newspapers carry pictures of the closing ceremony in the Maracana stadium at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. "Goodbye Rio, over to Tokyo 2020" is the caption above the photograph of artists performing during the closing ceremony, in the Asian Age.
Olympic Silver medalist P.V. Sindhu, her coach Pullela Gopichand, and Gymnast Dipa Karmakar being given a heroic welcome is covered with reports and photographs in most of the dailies.

The Asian Age and The Indian Express carry photographs of Jamaica's Usain Bolt celebrating after wining a gold medal in the men's 4X100 metre relay. The caption above the photograph in the Asian Age says "lightning Bolt". "Jamaican completes triple treble" says the paper.

On Olympic medallist PV. Sindhu The Hindustan Times writes "Andhra, Telangana rivalry enriches Sindu by crores."

Under the headline "Indian sports' ground reality" the Mail Today writes that the city's showcase Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is in  shambles, reflecting the state of facilities behind a trickle of medals.

The Times of India reports a pack of dogs mauled a 65 year-old woman to death on a Thiruvananthapuram beach on Firday, sparking outrage across Kerala and forcing CM Pinarayi Vijayan to assure he'll take steps to curb stray dog menace.

And finally, Some good news from the Maoist violence scarred Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. The red belt gram sabhas rake in crores. Well, The Statesman reports that the tribal families there have earned 30,000-50,000 rupees  each in just 10-15 days selling tendu leaves used to roll bidis. The gram Sabha in the area have, so far, registered a profit of 35 crore rupees from the sale this season, according to the data with the state forest department.

A caption in the Asian Age says, "A valiant brush with gold" while under the headline, "Silver Mine", Mail Today writes "Sindhu keeps her date with glory, becomes the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver after a golden effort". Hindustan Times quotes Sindhu's father who said, “It is a monumental achievement for Sindhu, she has always dreamt of winning an Olympic medal."
On the flip side, the Pioneer has carried a picture of the devastated Narsingh Yadav, saying that in a stunning reversal of fortunes, the Indian wrestler was ousted from the Olympics and slapped with a four-year ban for flunking a dope test after Court of Arbitration for Sports overturned the clean chit given to him by the National Anti-Doping Agency.
"2.4L accounts suspended by Twitter for `promoting terror'" - The Times of India says Twitter has suspended 2,35,000 accounts promoting terrorism on its platform since February this year, adding that 75 thousand tweeted Islamic State posts 60 times a day in 2014-15.
The Financial Express writes that vehicle owners in the country - numbering about 21 crore at last count - will run the risk of having to pay accident claims above Rupees 10 lakh out of their pockets, if the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the making, comes into force.

It is rare that one photograph is prominently splashed across all major dailies. Today all major dailies have prominently displayed two - the jubiliant photographs of bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik and gold medal prospect P V Sindhu.
The Asian Age describes it as "Two girls who made a billion people smile". The Pioneer banner headline uses word play - "India is Sakshi to Sindhu Desh".
The other major story in the dailies is related to the Indo-Pak dialogue. The Indian Express says "India draws clear red lines for Pakistan". The paper adds that India have asked Pakistan to end incitement in Jammu and Kashmir, stop sheltering Dawood, prosecute Azhar and Saeed and discuss vacation of Pak occupied Kashmir.
The Tribune reports that from October 1 this year, the US will give up Internet naming powers. The paper says, that US will give up its power fully to Los Angeles based non profit organisation - ICANN.
"Ranthambore's reigning star of 19 years Machhli dead" writes the Pioneer. The paper adds that an elaborate well- attended funeral was accorded to the tiger considered the world's oldest big cat in the wild. The Statesman headline describes Machhli as the "Most photographed tigress in the wild."
The Financial Express reports that the Centre has proposed a steep hike ranging from 60 to 95%, in the minimum wages for its contract and temporary workers.
Amid all the stories of the anger of Kashmiri youths against security forces, the Hindustan Times has a story headlined "Kashmiris proud as sons become India's soldiers". It reports of the passing out of 308 soldiers who will join the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry.

Most of the newspapers this morning carry pictures of gymnast Dipa Karmakar performing the Produnova vault to become the first Indian to enter the gymnastics final. "2 Dipa somersaults, 1 giant leap for India", leads The Indian Express.
Referring to the Quetta explosions The Statesmen writes "Taliban bomber kills 70 at Pakistan hospital".
Hindustan Times reports that a new dam will be constructed on Tons river, a tribulatary of the Yamuna, on the Himachal Pradesh-Uttarakhand border to meet nearly two-thirds of Delhi's projected additional demand for water by 2023.
"Over 1 Lakh schools in India have just one teacher" informs the Times of India. The paper writes that  Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are the worst with 18,000 such schools while Delhi has 13 schools.

Under the headline, "Peace talk and kiss-cams open spectacular Rio fest", the Indian Express says there was a ramp for the parade of beauties, a glorious pageantry of dancing bikini bodies, some racy runway music, and talk of world peace on everyone's lips.     The Financial Express reports that PM Narendra Modi has said over 8% growth over the next 30 years will bring the best of the world to India.

    "Now, Sanskrit to give ancient technological edge to IIT grads", under this headline, Hindustan Times writes that students at the Indian Institutes of Technology may soon be studying ancient engineering techniques- such as the one used by the monkey army to build the Ram Setu to Lanka in the Ramayana - written about in Sanskrit texts.

Off-field controversies continue to hamper India’s Olympic preparations in Rio. Under the headline, "Unfit jersey, no room! Indian players face troubles in Rio" , the Pioneer reports that a day after Indian tennis sensation Leander Paes was disappointed for not being allotted a room in Rio, the men’s hockey team reportedly decided to skip the opening ceremony for want of official kit.

    Rajya Sabha nod to GST gets top billing today.
    “One India market in sight as Rajya Sabha clears GST bill” is the Hindustan Times headline. “BJP, Congress come together to push biggest reform since ‘91” writes the Times of India. “G Yes T” is the Indian Express take on parties stepping over divide in a rare political consensus, stating, Jaitley’s handshake with Chidambaram was a moment of reconciliation after years of arguing from different sides of the aisle. “Good Sense Triumphed, but keep tax low” the Pioneer quotes P. Chidambaram, also giving a list of items likely to be cheaper including movie tickets.
    The bridge collapse in Maharastra is covered prominently with photographs. “At least 20 feared dead as floods wash away bridge”, reports the Hindu.
    “Miraculous escape for 300 as jet crash-lands in Dubai” highlights the Times of India, of an Emirates flight from Kerala carrying 226 Indians.
    The Pioneer reports of an alert pilot averting a mid-air collision between two Indigo planes carrying over 225 persons over Dhaka airspace.
    On a more positive note, the Business Standard informs of 30 percent cheaper fares to woo fliers, as lower fuel prices and fewer passengers make airlines cut prices for international destinations.
    Papers also reports widely on the new Motar Vehicles Act getting approved. The Tribune states “Steep penalties for traffic violations soon”. “ dangerous driving’ to cover jumping lights, using phone” attracting fine of 5,000 rupees and above, says the Times of India.

    Most newspapers have also covered Sonia Gandhi's roadshow in Varanasi yesterday. The Hindustan Times has published a picture of her with people thronging in the backdrop under the caption "Sonia takes campaign to Modi turf".
    "Mamata may opt for "Bango" is the Tribune headline. The paper reports that the West Bengal government has taken up a proposal to rename the state as "Bengal" in English and "Bango" or "Bangla" in Bengali.
    "Trial and error: High-speed Talgo train reaches Mumbai 3 hours late" reports the Business Standard about the third trial run of the much-hyped Talgo train on the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express route. The paper adds that the delay in timing was due to heavy rains and point failure at Mathura.
    The Asian Age reports that "Hackers now demand ransom in Bitcoins". The paper adds that a Delhi based diagnostic centre recently approached CBI sleuths after their data was hacked into by a malicious computer program called "Ransomware". The hackers demanded to be paid in "bitcoins".

    The resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel dominates the front pages. The Tribune writes "Gujarat CM quits, cites 75 year BJP bar on posts". Attributing different reasons for her resignation, The Times of India reports "Dalit fire, Patel ire and land mire force Gujarat's Big Ben to retire". On the possible successor, the Pioneer observes "Vijay Rupani possible front runner for CM's post".
    Anti doping agency NADA's verdict on wrestler Narsingh Yadav who tested positive for banned drugs is prominently noticed on the front pages. "Narsingh cleared by NADA panel but Rio some distance away" reports the Indian Express. The Times of India quotes the anti doping panel as saying "Narsingh was victim of sabotage by rival".
    All the papers take note of the expulsion of AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa from the party following reports that she had allegedly slapped a DMK MP. The Asian Age observes, "Jaya sacks her Rajya Sabha MP over slap incident : Sasikala says her life's in danger".
    The Supreme Court's refusal to take up a plea challenging the exoneration of BJP President Amit Shah by subordinate courts in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case gets traction in the press. The Statesman says "Clean chit to Amit upheld".
    On the Bulandshahr gangrape case, the Pioneer reports “Bulandshahr brutes still at large; three arrested suspects sent to 14-day judicial custody”.
    The pitiable condition of about 10,000 Indian workers in left stranded and starving in Saudi Arabia by bankrupt Saudi companies ,is widely noticed in the press. The Indian Express highlights External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's assurance to Parliament and quotes her as saying "Will bring Indians back from Saudi Arabia, wont let any go hungry".

    Hindustan Times reports that External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj asked the Indian embassy in Riyadh to provide free ration to more than 800 nationals starving for the past three days in Saudi Arabia after losing their jobs.

    Mail Today writes under the headline, "Women pilots fly high in Air India" that women pilots flying Air India planes will no longer be  rare sight as the national carrier is on a recruitment spree, training more women to fly than ever before.
