Reporting on a Supreme Court ruling, The Times of India writes that the Apex court has said a person accused of sexually assaulting a minor or a woman of unsound mind can be convicted without the rape survivor being cross-examined to corroborate her charges if other evidence was sufficient to prove guilt.
"CBI charges Gujarat based firm", says the Hindustan Times writing that the CBI has charged Sterlling Biotic limited with defaulting more than 5,300 crore rupees in bank loans, after accusing the Pharmaceutical company of bribing 3 Income Tax officials.

Most newspapers today have highlighted the confrontation between the Supreme Court and the centre over appointment of judges in the higher judiciary. The Indian Express, in its lead headline, writes "Supreme Court frames new norms to evaluate work of HC Additional Judges".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments at an international conference on consumer protection are highlighted on the front pages of many papers. The Pioneer quotes the Prime minister as saying "Tougher law to protect buyers".
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's visit to the Taj Mahal is prominently noticed on the front pages. The Indian Express quotes him as saying "don't get into why Taj was built, when or how....Taj a gem, will protect it". Several papers carry pictures of yogi Adityanath wielding a broom as part of a cleanliness drive at the west gate of the Taj.
Most papers also highlight the action taken by the UP police in the case involving the brutal assault on two foreign tourists in Agra. The DNA notes "5 held for attack on Swiss couple".

The death of Abdul Kareem Telgi who was convicted in the fake stamp paper case is noticed by all the papers. The Times of India writes "Telgi made a 32,000 crore rupee career in counterfeiting".
In what could be some good news for the economy, the Hindustan Times reports "Quarterly results, new data show economy could be turning around".

News of the Ministry of External Affairs gathering DNA samples of the families of the 39 Indians who were believed to have been captured by Islamic State militants from Mosul more than three years ago  dominates the front pages of most newspapers today. "39 missing Indians: MEA collects DNA from families," headlines the Indian Express.
In its front page headline, The Sunday Times reports "Congress seeks to widen anti-BJP Gujarat front, OBC leader joins party" noting that OBC leader Alpesh Thakur is set to join Congress on Monday. The Asian Age adds in its headline "Gujarat Poll drama: Congress wins over Hardik, BJP gets aides".
The DNA on its front page reports that RSS leader Rakesh Mishra was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Gazipur. Local journalist for a national Hindi daily, 35 years old Rajesh Mishra, succumbed to bullet wounds on Saturday morning after four motorcycle borne miscreants opened fire.
The Hindustan Times reports that the Reserve Bank of India, RBI on Saturday clarified that linking one's bank account with Aadhaar number is mandatory under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The Sunday Times adds that a fresh challenge has been posed to Aadhaar, in the Supreme Court, questioning the Constitutional validity of the Reserve Bank of India's decision to make its linkage with bank accounts mandatory.
According to the DNA in a front page story titled " Buried", Bofors files to be dug up",  the CBI top brass is learnt to have issued directions to key officers to locate the "buried" files connected to the case and prepare a fresh list of witnesses and accused who are still alive.

Most newspapers today have keenly tracked the pollution levels in Delhi-NCR a day after Diwali, post the ban imposed on the sale of firecrackers by the Supreme Court. "City cheats ban but pollution a bit less" headlines the Mail Today. "Delhi did its best but it wasn't enough, air still turned toxic" reads The Times of India's top headline.
The Hindu has front paged another story which says "Most pollution-linked deaths occur in India". Quoting an international commission's report, the paper says that out of 9 million premature deaths linked to pollution worldwide, a staggering 2.5 million deaths were reported from India in 2015.
Several newspapers have also front paged photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. "At Kedarpuri, PM lays foundation for five key projects" writes the DNA. The Times of India quotes the PM as saying "UPA didn't let me rebuild Kedarnath as Gujarat CM".
Reporting on the politically sensitive Bofors scam, the DNA, quoting Fairfax CEO Michael Hershman in its lead headline, writes- "What did Rajiv Gandhi have to hide (in Bofors case) ?"; 'should have ordered an inquiry'.
In a horrifying story of mob hysteria in Jammu & Kashmir, The Statesman reports "Mob tries to set youth on fire in Kashmir over 'braid-chopping". In another such instance reported from Delhi, The Asian Age says "Man objects to open urination, beaten to death".
The resignation of solicitor general Ranjit Kumar is keenly noticed in the newspapers today. The Asian Age writes "2nd top law officer quits, says reason is personal".
And finally, The Indian Express reports - come 2018 and India will get its indigenous nature channel "DD Prakriti" on the lines of Discovery and National Geographic channels, in order to promote nature conservation films by Indian filmmakers.

The Times of India highlights External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's special Diwali gesture for Pakistan nationals as it quotes her as saying "On Diwali, medical visa for all deserving cases that are pending." On Diwali celebrations in Delhi, the Statesman notes "Capital celebrates Diwali with fervour, lesser fireworks".
The Indian Express highlights the Kerala High Court's observation on inter-faith marriages in the backdrop of the campaign by various religious groups against what they describe as 'Love Jihad". The paper reports " Don't communalise inter-faith marriages, warns Kerala High Court". The Statesman quotes the high court as saying "All inter religious marriages not love jihad".
The Hindustan Times in its story captioned "5 pesticides that killed Maharashtra farmers may be banned for a month" writes that after reports of more than 30 farmers dying of pesticide poisoning in Yavatmal and some other districts of the state the government is considering banning the pesticides in five Vidarbha districts.
The Indian Express carries an exclusive interview with the Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir S P Vaid. The paper quotes him as saying "At least 160 militants killed this year, Kashmir needs political initiative".
The indictment of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Mohammad Safdar by an anti-graft court in a corruption case related to the Avenfield property in London.

The tragedy at the rail footover bridge connected to the Elphinstone Road station in Mumbai is covered in most newspapers today.
"And just like that, 22 dead in Mumbai" headlines The Tribune. 'Trapped on stairs, crammed in narrow space during stampede on footbridge linking 2 railway stations' adds the paper. The Times of India states "Railways Commute: A Death Sentence" adding 'Railways didn't act despite spate of warnings'. The Pioneer writes "Railway Ministry orders probe".
A top headline in the Hindustan Times reads "Govt extends deadline to sell Pre-GST Goods to Dec 31st". The Times of India speculates that the government is looking to allow quarterly filing of GST returns, instead of monthly, for most businesses, to ease their compliance burden.
The war of words between Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha and the government over its handling of the Indian economy is highlighted by the DNA. The Asian Age, too, in its lead story quotes the minister as saying "If I wanted a job, I would be Finance Minister".
