Wary of ‘backlash’, UPA not in favour of Telangana: "The UPA leadership is learnt not to be in favour of carving out a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh and would rather go for “empowering” the region suggested as the best way forward by the Srikrishna Committee.
This comes even as the government is consulting political parties and leaders from different regions of the state and is yet to take a formal decision.
The UPA leadership is apprehensive of a “backlash” in Rayalseema and coastal Andhra regions if the state is bifurcated. Besides, the ruling dispensation does not want to open a Pandora’s Box as creation of a separate state could re-ignite similar demands in many other states."
