Current affairs for KBC

On Diwali 2025, India marks the beginning of Vikram Samvat 2082, an ancient lunar-solar calendar year associated with renewal and prosperity. Despite global uncertainties and high U.S. tariffs on Indian exports during Vikram Samvat 2081, India’s economy displayed remarkable resilience. The Sensex rose from 79,700 to 83,952 points, and Nifty50 climbed from 24,300 to 25,709, reflecting strong domestic investor confidence. Meanwhile, gold and silver prices nearly doubled within the year, establishing bullion as the best-performing asset class. Vikram Samvat 2082 begins with optimism, as the nation looks ahead to consolidating its growth momentum and safeguarding its position as the world’s third-largest economy.

The Supreme Court of India has termed the pendency of 8.82 lakh execution petitions in civil courts across the country as “highly disappointing” and “alarming.” A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Pankaj Mithal observed that although 3.38 lakh petitions were disposed of in the last six months, the backlog still undermines justice delivery. The apex court emphasized that delayed enforcement of decrees amounts to a “travesty of justice” and granted all High Courts another six months to ensure speedy disposal of such cases. The court has scheduled the next progress review for April 10, 2026, demanding full compliance and accountability from the High Courts.

In the United States, President Donald Trump’s administration has enacted measures such as a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa petitions—currently under legal challenge—signaling a broader ideological shift toward nationalist policy priorities.

India's Maoist (Naxalite) insurgency has sharply weakened in 2025, with only 11 districts affected—down from 175 in 2013—due to intensified counterinsurgency operations like Operation Kagar and a record wave of militant surrenders, arrests, and fatalities, making this year the deadliest for Maoist militants since 2006.
