The lead story in Hindustan Times informs us that the newly elected NDA government plans to introduce transformational changes in the Direct Tax Regime, by pruning a tax rate that is as high as 30 per cent, easing the process for honest tax payers and widening of the tax base.  "Direct Tax reform to take Centre stage in Modi's second term" is the paper's top headline.

Regarding the Goods and Services Tax (GST), introduced during the NDA's first term, Business Standard reports that GST collection crossed one Trillion rupees for a third straight month in May, posting an over six per cent growth.
